History of B-Tech

On 31st May 1972, MPB Audio Services Ltd was founded by Martin Bennett. What started as a modest entrepreneurial venture in South London would eventually grow into the company now recognised worldwide as the B-Tech AV Mounts Group. Initially set up as a ‘man with a van‘ in Croydon, it focused on door-to-door selling of AV components and later evolving into an original design manufacturer of audio and video accessories. These ranged from designing control switches to mounting brackets for televisions, projectors and speakers.

To cater for the growing demand for optimised loudspeaker acoustics, the revolutionary BT1 ‘Tilt & Swivel’ Speaker Mount was launched in 1979. The success of this speaker mount led to the designing of additional speaker mounts and floor stands.

The popularity of the BT1 not only helped to establish the company’s reputation for innovation but also laid the foundations for the product development philosophy that continues to drive B-Tech today: delivering practical, reliable and forward-thinking AV mounting solutions.

With a hunger to develop additional original products, SCART Switchboxes and RCA/Cinch controls for televisions were released, quickly followed by switches and input controls for loudspeakers. These products would go on to become the ‘industry standard’ with many replicas being made and sold widely. The brand name given to the products became the first application of the name used in our brand today: B-Tech. In 1989, MPB Audio Ltd (trading as Supreme Audio Services) officially became B-Tech Limited.

After the success of the speaker brackets and AV controls, the company developed its first television wall mount for ‘old-style‘ CRT televisions. It was the era when households began owning a second television for use in a different room, with limited space or shelving, the practical option of mounting a television on a specialist wall mount gained appeal. This development would prove to be a fundamental step in the history of B-Tech. From being a generic audio-visual accessories distributor, B-Tech now also had a portfolio of original designed products, for a range of different audio and video equipment including screen mounts.

As the new millennium began, B-Tech continued to expand on multiple fronts. The company strengthened its international distribution network while increasing its focus on developing its own product ranges, with a split between the retail home market and professional AV sector. B-Tech was designing and manufacturing popular retail wall and floor mounting solutions for home cinema speakers while also introducing innovative flexible systems to mount large TVs into corporate environments. B-Tech soon became one of the first companies in the UK to offer mounting solutions for the emerging plasma screen technology and later on updated the modular system initially developed to mount CRT TVs, into System 2, the basis for an exceptionally versatile range of mounting components for flat screen displays.

It soon became important that B-Tech had enough space to accommodate higher stock volumes, so in 2003, B-Tech relocated from South-East London to the much larger premises in Northamptonshire in the centre of the UK. To support the growth of the business internationally, B-Tech established its first international office in Hong Kong enabling the company to ship directly to its UK headquarters and to distributors around the world.

In 2006, B-Tech expanded further with the formation of several new companies, B-Tech Pro-AV BVBA was opened in Belgium, B-Tech AV Mounts Pte Ltd in Singapore and B-Tech in the USA was launched.

Sensing an opportunity to change the way the market thinks about mounting AV equipment, a revolutionary mounting system based on extruded aluminium was launched: System X. This is essentially a component-based range from which infinite solutions can be created. To complement this modular system, an industry first digital configuration tool that automatically selects the required components was developed. B-Tech had already made significant inroads into the digital signage market with the introduction of the Push-In Push-Out Videowall Mount a few years earlier, but System X gave us an innovative new way of serving the market and provided a huge amount of flexibility to integrators. In 2016, System X was awarded a commendation at the prestigious AV Awards in London.

In further recognition of our innovation, product quality and customer service, B-Tech was awarded the highly coveted ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ at the AV Awards in 2017. The company was nominated alongside industry giants such as Samsung, NEC, Panasonic, Sharp and Crestron. B-Tech, the company that began as a small family business from Croydon, had beaten industry titans to become the first mount company and first British company ever, to win the award after more than 25 years!

In 2022, B-Tech celebrated its 50th year, the company had never been in a better position. The range of professional mounting solutions, including those for dvLED panels, continued to grow, with an increasing focus on large-scale commercial installations. Additional engineers were recruited to provide the level of service now expected from B-Tech. As a result, additional services became available, including custom designs that utilised B-Tech’s in-house design and production capabilities not just in the UK, but also in Belgium, China, Vietnam and the USA. The facilities enabled the company to produce low volume production runs and bespoke solutions tailored to specific project requirements.

Today, the B-Tech AV Mounts Group consists of ten operations strategically located around the world, offering the full service expected of a leading global brand, with a familiar, local feel. In 2025, B-Tech products was sold to over 65 countries worldwide. B-Tech mounts can be found in prestigious hotels, shopping malls, government facilities, corporate offices, sports stadia, restaurants, airports and conference venues across the globe. B-Tech has truly become international and never has our motto of ‘Local Service on a Global Scale’ been more relevant.

Since 2022, B-Tech has been part of the Global Mounts Group; the ultimate specialist in mounting solutions for IT and pro AV hardware. The group consists of three market-leading brands; Neomounts, B-Tech AV Mounts, and Audipack, whose combined portfolio enables the Global Mounts Group to offer the most extensive assortment of high-quality mounting products available in the market today.

At the beginning of 2024, B-Tech successfully launched its rebrand at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) the AV industry’s leading event. Two years later, GMG showcased its largest-ever booth at ISE, combining the best of B-Tech, Neomounts and Audipack to present one of the most comprehensive ranges of mounting solutions available from a single provider.
